Celebrating Fathers in Haiti:
A Tribute on Father’s Day June 30th 2024

June 30th marks a special day in Haiti—Father’s Day. It’s a time to celebrate the Fathers who embody strength, resilience and unwavering love in the face of adversity. This year, more than ever, it’s important to recognize and honour Haitian fathers who continue to stand tall amidst the recent challenges.

On this Father’s Day, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude to these extraordinary men. Whether through a heartfelt message, a simple gift, or a shared meal, showing appreciation can mean the world to them. It’s a day to acknowledge their hard work, to listen to their stories, and to remind them of the profound impact they have on our lives.

Haitian fathers are often the backbone of their families, providing not just financially but emotionally and spiritually as well. In a country where economic hardships, natural disasters and political instability are frequent, fathers remain steadfast pillars of support. They work tirelessly, often juggling multiple jobs, to ensure their families have food on the table and a roof over their heads.

Consider the story of Jean, a father of three from Port-au-Prince. Despite losing his home in the 2010 earthquake, Jean never gave up. He rebuilt his life from scratch, working multiple jobs to ensure his children received an education. Today, his eldest daughter is in medical school, a testament to Jean’s dedication and unwavering belief in the power of education. Or the story of Pierre, who despite losing his job during the pandemic, found innovative ways to support his family. From starting a small garden to sell produce, to offering tutoring sessions, Pierre’s creativity and resilience ensured his family never went without.

Celebrating Despite the Challenges

This Father’s Day, let us also remember the importance of solidarity. Supporting Haitian fathers means advocating for better economic opportunities, access to education, and improved living conditions. It’s a call to the international community to stand with Haiti and contribute to efforts that enhance the quality of life for these families.

Hanwash is working to achieve just that – improve quality of life – by providing water, sanitation and hygiene eventually to the whole of Haiti. You can help us to achieve our audacious goal by supporting our efforts. Your donation whether large or small WILL make a difference.
